why is it such a surprising mystery to these commentators that Katie Hoff is disappointing? I heard she looked very controlled in prelims. I think most thought she'd have plenty in the tank for tonight. I have a feeling that unless the U.S. team is really firing on all cylinders they could be in for a rude awakening in Rome on both the men's and women's sides.

The Women's 100 Fly was fast - but the longer events seem rather slow - especially the men's 400 Free. Take the foreigners out and somebody going 3:54 will make finals ? Chad Latourette won the 800 free at WUGS today going 7:47. He went 4:46 in the 400. The 1500 is his best event. I wonder if he's regretting choosing Belgrade over Trials? Sean Mahoney ripped off a 2:09 in the Semi in Belgrade tonight. He would be solid a contender behind Shanteau in the 200 ***.
