  • There are a lot of 20 second breaks where you lay in corpse pose. Plus, the chicks in yogakinis ... Don't count him out. Oh, and it's 90 minutes in the Africa hot steamer, not 60. So, the question is whether the attractive women overshadow the 90 minutes. I'd give the nod to Jazz in a 60 minute setting, no way on 90 minutes. But, Jazz is 18 so he's still young and virile.

  • But who could pass up a chance to see GeekyCheeky on youtube? Literally millions upon millions of people could pass this up. Hell, there is one in my own house.
  • It was more interesting than alot of training clips out there. Plus, more entertaining than the whole NBC primetime lineup! Thanks much for the kind words. For what it's worth, I am thinking about making an appointment with an orthopedic psychiatrist in the near future. Thanks, Leslie, for teaching me that physical pain can be as bad as pyschological pain, but when the two are combined, the only phrase that comes to my mind is "one badass mofoing exquisite test of character."
  • Jimby & Fort weight training at the gym... forums.usms.org/blog.php I've always thought it would be fun to go to a training session with Fort in the gym. And I don't enjoy weight-lifting... But somehow I bet she could make it less intimidating -and fun. After watching the video I know its true. A new line of training videos - or at least continue the training clips! Loved it!

  • I would like to recommend a new blog entitled Hoodoo7 forums.usms.org/blog.php It is written by a northern Californian (I think) who has very recently taken up masters swimming. Hoodoo7 has a flair for description, and each of her entries so far shows what it is like for a beginning swimmer encountering the foreign culture of swimming practice, something that those of us who swam competitively as kids take for granted. I highly recommend it to anybody who has maybe been reading these forums for a while and is considering taking the plunge and joining a team but feels a little cowed at the prospect. I also think that coaches and veteran swimmers alike might find her take on the masters world eye-opening and empathy-inducing. I admire, as well, her honesty. Here are a couple excerpts to give you an idea. From an entry entitled Calculus: something like this: "I want you all to do 12 50's, 25 drill, 25 non-free, 10 seconds between each." Malik would automatically say it back to her in a different order that made it all the more baffling to me. She would say it again, he would re-interpret it and I would look back and forth between them, becoming more confused and frustrated. She would then say to me, "Follow Malik." This worked for a couple of weeks, but my nature is to understand what I am doing before I begin - I don't trust a lot of people and I want to be able to rely on my own brains. Or from another entry entitled Society: As with all new experiences, jobs, etc., I just watch. I am friendly, but mostly I just collect info on everyone else for a while. I have no idea what the supreme masters swimmers are about (those in the furthest most lanes from the first lane). I see them when it's time to pull tarps over the pool or have observed them when the coach takes us out of the water down to their lanes to observe the correct way to do pulls with a buoy (which they perform with consistent pendulum swings of their entire bodies, barely moving the water around them). They are like the purebred horses in the stable and we are more like the draft horses, better built for steady labor, versus speed and grace. She has us avert our eyes from everyone else as we return to our first lane, as though we would instantaneously pick up bad habits or turn into pillars of salt. About those I know the most are the ones who swim with me in the first lane and the consistent swimmers in the second lane. And the women, because showering in the locker room after the session can be a great source of drama and gossip. Once, a young woman was squealing in delight about how one of the supreme swimmers brushed her leg as he passed her in the next lane. Highly recommend!
