2010 SCY Nationals

It is my understanding that the 2010 SCY Nationals will be May 20-23 in Georgia. Is this correct? And, does anyone know which format of events they will be using? Thanks :)
  • For a change? 2005 Florida 2006, um, FLORIDA! 2007 LC nationals, Texas, not east East, but pretty close! 2008 Texas, 2009 LC Indianapolis (closer to you than me!) Geez. It has been my experience that the West to East time change is a lot harder when it comes to waking up early. :bed:
  • It is just as hard for the East Coasters. When we went to Portland and my heat of the 1500 started around 6:30pm that would be 9:30 EST and I go to bed at 9:30 at home. The adjustments go both ways but it is great to have one so local next year. Even though I have family in the area I will not stay with them at Nationals. The bed in my in-laws guest room needs to be replaced so I'll just make other arrangements so that I will get a good nights sleep!

It has been my experience that the West to East time change is a lot harder when it comes to waking up early. :bed: I guess that I am just venting because I really wasn't training that much to compete in 2005-2008. 2008, I just got back in the pool after recovering from a nasty staph infection in Sept, 2007. I would have done LCM Nationals last year and SCY, this year but I really didn't have the money to go. I am glad that Summer Nats are in Indy. Plus, If my training holds up(you never know what will happen), I will be psyched that Nationals are in Atlanta.
  • Texas is a four-hour flight from New York. California is five. Hardly "close enough." (Though I did love Austin.) Another way to look at it is: 06 SC: Florida, reasonable enough 06 LC: Palo Alto, far 07 SC: Seattle, far 07 LC: Woodlands, somewhat far 08 SC: Austin, somewhat far 08 LC: Oregon, far 09 SC: Fresno, far 09 LC: Indy, reasonable enough So that's six meets between "reasonable" from the Northeast. I know why that is & I certainly don't think it is terrible, but I can see why someone out here would be glad to get some meets that aren't a $300-400 plane ticket again, finally. And yes, it was in Florida twice in a row and will be in Ruerto Rico next year so it is balancing out. But I think you are wrong to scoff.
  • I already started trying to sell this trip to my wife. She's not so hot on Hotlanta yet. Austin was easy because she loves Austin, and Fresno worked because we went Sequoia to see the Giant Forest. So far, it's looking like it could be at least a 2 year woodshed for me before I swim SCY nats again.
  • Texas is a four-hour flight from New York. California is five..... But I think you are wrong to scoff. I think we should change your name from some girl to whoa girl or down girl :afraid: I'm not scoffing. As Tom acknowledged, he was venting b/c it seemed like nationals is always far away. I merely pointed out that it is not always far away. And, FOR ME, as I am the only person I can speak for, the time change is worse going West to East. I've been to CT at least 30 times in the last 15 years for 2 weeks at a stretch, and it kills me every time. I do much better East to West (keeping in mind I do not go to bed at 9:30, and I can see how that would be a bummer for swimming a meet at that time!) And I'm wondering why NY to TX is 4 hours? Do you have layovers? Anyway, is someone going to share where we might find the meet format? I too need to start working on the spouse. I really want him to train again. And goals are a good thing! PS The typo "Ruerto Rico" reminds me of Scooby Doo :)
  • I think we should change your name from some girl to whoa girl or down girl :afraid: That's interesting. There is not hostility here. I just don't like it when people make uninformed comments, such as suggesting Texas is close. I merely pointed out that it is not always far away. And I merely pointed out that over the last few years the meets have in fact been far away. So from a particular vantage point it can seem as if they are always far. And I'm wondering why NY to TX is 4 hours? Do you have layovers? No. That is just how long it takes. On Jet Blue's site, they list JFK to Austin as 9-12.15, which is four hours with the time difference. PS The typo "Ruerto Rico" reminds me of Scooby Doo :) Then I shall leave it. At least one part of me was entertaining.

  • You forgot The Varsity, but only AFTER you've completed all your events.
  • My "uninformed" self will just revert back to my original question.
