So having re-introduced myself to the water about 19 months ago, I was able to see several months worth of personal best times (bests for my 2nd swimming career that is). It was a lot of fun watching my times shrink, my stamina build, my form improve, etc. I started with maybe 4500 yard weeks and now do the 18k to 20k type of week, lost all the weight, blah blah.
Anyway, I have a swim partner and we push ourselves fairly hard, though I realize that a good masters program would do a better job of this. My problem has been that I definitely plateaued (sp?). Maybe 3 months ago, I stopped improving in any way. However, in the past two weeks, I just started flying again. New bests in every catagory in which I practice. I've changed nothing. No new diet, no vitamins, no steroids, nothing.
These may be "no-duh" types of questions but:
A) Is this normal and to be expected? Sort of, just keep on pushing and good things will come at their own pace.
B) Can you manufacture this deal? In other words, after I recognize a future plateau, can I create improvement by doing something different even though I can think of nothing I've done to pass the one I've just hurdled?
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

I think you will find progress, plateaus, even backslides happen many times before reaching the best performance. It is always in the future, a never ending story until old age catches up and decline.
