Done really well, butterfly. Watched Mary T. do a 1500 fly one year at Belmont Plaza. Beautiful.
Done really poorly (probably mine), butterfly just looks painful...
The gender differences in the poll are interesting.Women swimming backstroke seems to be popular, men hardly at all.I will not speculate as to why.:bolt:
Without a doubt, 'fly.
When I was a little girl joining the swim team for the first time I only knew freestyle and backstroke. I remember being awestruck by the beauty of butterfly as swum by the older girls. I HAD to learn how to do that!
I agree with butterfly.
Women often swim ugly freestyle for some reason. Too many swim with straight arms like Janet Evans. Dara Torres on the other hand swims a very pretty freestyle.
Well This topic is about the most beaufiful stroke, not the greatest performer.
it's no that Egerszegi is awful :) simply I like to see Coventry more.
I remember watching Kristina's Olympic races in awe. She always blew everyone away!
But those were the days when I hated backstroke - never swam it except to recover from the fly in the IM - and I was not a swim coach to appreciate her technique.
I do remember that she had an unusual stroke, but she was so much faster than anyone she had to be doing something right.
The clips I have seen are not great, but I am interested in what she was doing that was so superior. She did seem to dolphin off the turns which was a new concept then.
What about Egerszegi?

BTW Coventry is 2-times reign 200m olympic champ, 2-times runner-up in 100m, in times with a lot of competitiors. At London she can match the Egerszegi for the triple crown at 200m, so she isn't a bad performer too.
