Hello all. I am a 32 year old swimmer who swam and played water polo in high school and only played water polo in college. I just started back swimming with some regularity last fall. My goal over the next year is to rack up some personal bests in the 50, 100, 200 free and 200 IM. I will have 3-4 days a week that I can swim and pretty much any day that I can go to a local gym or ride my bike.
I have read many of Ande's posts and done some of the workouts posted here on the forum. I am looking more for input on an overall training scheme, what type of workouts would be best, yardage totals, weight/dryland suggestions (both type and frequency), or anything else that you think might be helpful.
Thank you!
Mark gave some good sources for workout development. I personnally like and use Ernest Maglischo's books when developing my taper and such. I also kept records of my workouts over the last 3 years and I have been reusing those.
I particularly like the workouts I had with Rick Benner when I swam for SST and that is the time I saw the greatest time drops in all of my shorter swims.
Since you are clearly trying to focus more on sprints than distance you might want to check out the blogs of some of the sprinters and use some of their workouts. You might also check out Tall Pauls Favorite workouts and/or sets under the workouts section.
