Goal update:
Goal 1:50 SCY or equivalent.
Latest swim at regional meet:
This year 1:52.51
25.86 54.11 (28.25)
1:23.62 (29.51) 1:52.51 (28.89)
Last year at same meet for comparison 26.77 29.22 (55.99) 29.15 (1:25.14) 28.30 for 1:53.44
So this year I took it out much harder (which I have to do to get closer to my goal) but had a slightly weaker back half. 3rd 50 was too much of a fall off from the 2nd. But this gives me confidence to try to swim a similar race next time and with better turns (at least 3 I was too far from the wall) and swimming a bit fresher (last year was first race of the day - this year 3rd race) and with luck make further progress. I'm going back over thread to pick out some 200 conditioning sets for the next few weeks!
Very nice Guy. Is your target meet Zones or Nationals?
A favorite set for the 200 was 10x50 on 1:00, hold race pace. You want to hold 28s (flat) to the feet.
Did you rest, shave, taper, tech suit for this last meet? If not, dropping 2.5 seconds at your taper meet seems doable.
I don't think you need to go out any faster on your first 50 for your goal. Going out in a 25 high, 26 flat seems appropriate for a 1:50. It might be a good idea to do a couple 50s from the blocks whenever possible for time, shooting for 25.5 or 26 low to the feet consistently.
The key to the 200 is consistency, or, lacking that, a very high pain tolerance.
