I re-watched Rowdy's finish...
Thought he was so buoyant in his new B70, when he drove his hand into the finish while rotating on his side, it just POPPED him over!
(OMG... hope mine arrives in time to practice swimming in it first!)
Can someone explain how these teams are put together? The Sarasota FL squad
clearly seems to be stacked. I know for a fact that at least some of the people
swimming for them are not from that area. Is there some sort of recruiting
going on for Y Nats?
No question. One of our swimmers was recruited by South Hills, Sarasota, and MidDelmarva last year at the meet. Someone has lodged an official complaint, from what I hear. You are supposed to be a full member ninety days before the champs.

If people paid their 3 months of monthly fees even though they live 1500 miles from that Y, it still should be ok.
Ande,
I believe Rowdy's 200 was the fastest 200 overall in the entire meet. Not bad for a 50 year old.
I've got mixed feelings re Rowdy's 50 free yesterday. His 21.62 broke my oldest current record (21.73) from 1998, which is a teeny bit depressing, but I'm honored that it was Rowdy who did it. Really, it was about time. I predict that Paul Smith will go faster by a bunch if he ever gets it together to swim in a big meet.
Paul, why no SC nationals this year?
Rich
Rich, perhaps this is above you, an honorable champion whose accomplishments sweep the decades!
But does it bother you at all that Rowdy beat your record with the considerable advantage (in my opinion) of a swim suit that was not available when you swam the 50 in that age group?
I know there has been considerable debate here, pro and con, about B70 and similar suits, which may or may not be outlawed by years end.
I, for one, will go to my grave believing your 21.73 is, in fact, a much faster swim than the 21.62 performed in the sleek contours of a neoprene body boat!
A friend of mine at our recent regional YMCA masters champs told me about his son, whose best time in the 200 was a respectable 1:51. The coach bought the team B70s for the state meet, and his son swam a 1:44. Some of this may be due to tapering, etc.
Next week, I am going to swim at Colony Zones, and one of the guys on this forum, BillS, is going to loan me his (slightly too big) B70. I will put my results on my vlog. I honestly don't know if this will help me much, but if it makes any kind of significant difference, given the not-great shape I am in right now, I will return to even more enthusiastically sing your praises as a robbed world record holder!
