My family and I will be traveling to South Korea in June and are looking to stay in a hotel in Seoul for at least part of our time. I know there's a decent hotel pool at the Hotel Shilla, where we stayed when we went 8 years ago, but I'm wondering if anyone has stayed at the Grand Hyatt, or somewhere else with a good lap pool. I have a 10-mile swim scheduled for a month after we get back so I have to be able to get in some decent yardage while we are there.

my brother lives in Seoul and the olympic pool is open to the public. he swims there sometimes.
he's wondering around Korea now between contracts, but I can ask him if he knows how far the pool is from your hotel. he was going back to Seoul for the world cup game between North and South.

you can look at his blog, it's not been updated since this past summer, but he's got some things around seoul he has visit, as well as when my parents went over to visit.
I'll see if you plans on posting anything about his 6-8 week journey now, or if he has just gone over to FB updates.
It takes 30 minutes by subway to get from the Shilla to the Olympic swimming pool. Men and women can do lap swimming from 1pm-4pm for 4,000 won roughly $3.00.
Todays rate is 1330won/$, this might be something to keep your eye on. it's gone up from 950 to as much as 1600won.
There are at least 8 lanes... my brother loves to mention "it's the actual pool used in the 88 Olympics." he gets a big kick out of being able to say that he has swum in it. My brother has never seen more than 4 people in one lane. Usually 1-3.

I have stayed at the Grand Hyatt 4 times in past 3 year. Excellent.
You might look into Mariott Suites. Great for family with the extra space, TV room, small kitchen and room service grocery store shopping.
You will like to 25 meter pool at both places. All swimmer must wear a swim cap! Which I found most unusual when I unknowingly caused an international incident when my shaved head was found "out of Order".
Korea is a great place for custom fit tailors. Look into that if you are in need of dress apparel.

I've always wanted to swim in on of the Olympic pools. That's pretty cool that it is open to the public and it's pretty cheap. I'd like to swim at the Olympic pool at Georgia Tech in Atlanta but I think it's only for students and faculty. The Beijing pool is pretty cool looking too as is the aquatic center in London for the 2012 games.

Thanks for reminding me of this! I found this out the hard way in Japan and hadn't thought to bring a cap for my trip to Seoul tomorrow until I saw your post. :banana:
