They already have started...Thompson, a kid from Georgia in the 500. The Baylor School and Caramel girls both broke relay records over the weekend.

Texas State championships should be great tucker thompson & umbach are impressive freshman matt ellis went 50.0 100 fl watch shayne flemming from CA, he broke the 15/16 50 LCM free record in 22.7 this summer Ian is Fred's son, Fred swam for UT in the early 70's Fred is 6'4"ish his wife is 5'9" I've never met Ian, but he's hitting his stride this year. he went 52.4 100 bk & 47.2 100 free relay lead off only rested 2 days for regions There's a 14 year old 8th grader Cannon Clifton to watch next year he's already been 21.0, 46.0, & 1:42 both parents were aggie swimmers mom coaches him I watched Ian's swim in San Antonio. He got after it from the start and blew away his very good 2:00 prelim swim. Big kid, like his dad. He has the 1st seed going into state with two returning medalists in the IM. I watch 4A more closely than 5A. 5A is fearsomely fast. It is brutal just to advance to state. What city does Clifton swim in? Those are outstanding freshman times. I don't think Fiegen was that fast as a freshman.

Psych sheets available for both 4A and 5A at www.tisca.org. The times are very fast this year - even without Mary Beck (at Cal already) and Jimmy Fiegen. Thompson's IM was incredible. Samantha Tucker's 1:45 200 free was also very good. Gray Umbach is one of the rising stars in Texas and he is a freshman now. Watch him for years to come. Gray broke Phelp's 13-14 age group record in the 200IM. Probably skipped IM this year because of Thompson. A 4A freshman from Alamo Heights (F. LeMaistre) swam a 1:55 IM at Regionals. Surely related to the Masters swimmer from San Antonio?

  • Kyle Whitaker, who had the National Public School Record last year at 1:46.75 and other two guys broke the record 3 times in the last month. Matt Thompson goes 1:45.75 to break the record, then Nick D'Innocenzo goes 1:45.57 and then Matt Thompson goes 1:45.27 to get it back. Then today, Kyle Whitaker went 1:46.25 to get the record back from the year before at the Indiana HS State Championships at IUPUI Natatorium. Both Thompson and D'Innocenzo have gone 1:44.XX but did not perform the swim in a High School meet so they can't have the High School record. Matt Thompson was close to the record of Derya Buyukuncu record in the 100 back from 1994 by .13 (:47.37 vs :47.24). Alex Lim has the Independent HS and overall record at :46.82 from 1999.

Amazing Cole Cragin www.floswimming.org/.../156591-national-hs-record-in-the-100-back I was there to watch this race yesterday and prelims the day before. Cragin's underwater work is amazing. His start is impressive enough - but his kicks off the walls on turns is truly incredible. His race dazzled the crowd and earned him a standing ovation. People were buzzing about it the rest of the meet.
  • Kyle Whittaker-Chesterton HS, Indiana-new state champs- new national hs record in the 200 IM-1:45.25=he's a junior!
