It always made me unhappy that CA does not have a state swimming championship. Our high school relay team won a relay (200 medley) at the central section (central valley) championships and I had always wanted a chance to stack ourselves up against Southern CA and the Bay area - even if we lost. I would imagine a state swimming championship in CA would produce some crazy fast times.
On a separate note, does anybody notice how there are always records still on the books from the early 1980's? It seems like there must have been a real push in swimming that took place at that time - look at the distance records (free) in the boys public high school section. Those times would look fast in most colleges today!
