43 year old female, 4305 yards. I went non-stop, otherwise I probably would have cramped up. I was hoping for a little more, as I held the same exact pace that I held for the 6000Y postal in the fall.
2nd year and did 3900. it was a sufferfest but it was 175 more than last year so i'll take it.
things i'm glad i did: 1) did an afternoon swim. my afternoon swim times always tend to be faster than my morning times 2) did several sessions where i did timed 1000s to get a feel for things 3) started so that we could see the hands of the clock.
what was strange was that i felt like i was slowing down the whole time even though i kept telling myself to speed up the last 1/2 so i could negative split. turns out the splits were pretty even.

I had the exact same experience though I actually did negative split a bit despite feeling like I was dragging a tire for the last 1000.
I did 4700. I am 56. Last year, I did 4825. Five years ago, I did 4996, rounded down to 4995. Not sure what accounts for this diminuation of endurance. I would credit decrepitude generally, but my shorter swims seem to be holding up and possibly even improving slightly with age. It is probably a character issue.
I did it
I am not a distance swimmer I lack the ability to hold my attention on any "one" thing for very long
I am an experienced swimmer - I swam in my first meet in 2004
I am 37
I swam 3,940 yards
I would do it again
