Michael Phelps and a bong? Is there any truth to this?

are we sure that's Phelps?
If true, he seems to have a habit of screwing up in the very next Novembers after Olympics...
anyone here from the UK? How reputable is "news of the world"?
How could he be so careless?

Again, if this really did happen, why is it JUST coming out?
Because negotiating a price for the photo takes time?
I really hope he serves a ban for this.
There's no competitive advantage that he gets from pot.
Seriously. Who cares about this?
If you have a kid that admires him, the only thing you can do is to try and explain that life isn't black and white. Ppl are human, they make mistakes. You and I may or may not agree with them, but nobody is perfect.
The challenge is to honor and recognize everybody's faults and weaknesses. It's easy to recognize the positives. Anybody can do that.
But to come to terms with the positives AND the negatives of an individual is the mark of a quality human being.
It's always interesting how celebrities show remarkable self-awareness about their mistakes after they get caught ... and usually when millions of dollars in endorsements are on the line.
And I suppose when you have made mistakes in life, you've always without fail recognized them, acknowledged them publicly or to those you have disappointed, well before the truth surfaces months or even years later?
If not, then... please... spare us the feigned indignation.
Listen, I like Phelps but this stinks for the sport and for him.
Yawn.
Meh.
First, he isn't going to get a ban...Second, I consider myself a fairly straight arrow...I don't do a lot of drinking and I have never done drugs at all...HOWEVER....based on what I see, other than the law, there isn't a difference between smoking dope and drinking...I'd MUCH rather meet up with a stoned driver than a drunk one. You guys are going to hold Phelps to some high GOD level, he should do NO wrong? He is YOUNG...he isn't old enough to have any life smarts yet. I mean...CRAP we don't hold our ELECTED LEADERS to this type of level...I can name COUNTLESS numbers of them who still have jobs after doing harsher drugs than dope....give it a rest...he smoked dope...SO WHAT.
So quickly? This happened in November (I think). What exactly is quick about that?

It may have happened in Nov, but it was first reported YESTERDAY. So yes, today, he issued a statement admitting it was him, rather than denying it for months.
And quite frankly, most people willl say why admit to anything like this until you have to? If someone had not caught it on camera, no one would have even known. It isn't just celebrities that show self-awareness like that. I would argue the average American is the same way.
I usually come out and admit mistakes, even before discovery, if it something I cannot fix. If it is a mistake I can fix, I will immediately do so (like a typo in a report error). However, I have learned that I cannot impose my code of ethics or sense of integrity on everyone.

Welcome back to our America!
Yawn.

Star also reported it (another bastion of journalistic integrity) and now online versions of the New York Daily News and the New York Post have also posted it, all the while saying allegedly.
Either way, I seriously doubt anything comes of it. There is no way they can prove without a doubt that that is Michael Phelps. And, if it is him, the drugs will all be gone from his system, so...
Tabloids are just a prime example of what is wrong with the world. I hope it isn't him and he sues them ALL for libel. The world would be a better place without the tabloid trash, especially since most people know more about what is going on in Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's life than what is going on with our economy or the policies the new president back. That is so not a good thing.
LOOK AT THE WATCH.
That was my first thought too... match the watch and you've caught your toker. The gossip sites are one step ahead on this one... I found a site that has about 5 pics of him with that watch. The only problem is they look like they were photoshopped just to keep the story alive.
Personally I don't think it's Michael in the picture. Not that he wouldn't do it, I just don't think that picture is of him.
