Michael Phelps and a bong? Is there any truth to this?

are we sure that's Phelps?
If true, he seems to have a habit of screwing up in the very next Novembers after Olympics...
anyone here from the UK? How reputable is "news of the world"?
How could he be so careless?

hey, who cares?
it would only be a scandal if he said "i didn't inhale"
The best comment was:
"How else do you think he manages to consume 15,000 calories a day?"
Very funny.
Found one sight saying that "it doesn't seem to be in question" that it's him.

...don't know what this Berman Post is though either...
Perhaps it's one of these "draped women" feeling scorned who published it...who knows.
As for the hair thing...you can't judge when the head is in different positions. I looked more at the outside corner of the eye angle...don't really care anyhow.
Maybe he didn't know there was pot in there, and can sue the person who handed him the pipe?

True drug users have been elected several times now, without much attempt to hide the facts.
Though parents and coaches alike may care. Makes our jobs harder in trying to keep kids out of drugs and into sports.
That is just a blog linking to the News of the World article. While News of the World says it is him and that they were offered money, they have produced no proof other than saying it is true
Again, if this really did happen, why is it JUST coming out? And why haven't ANY of the US tabloids picked up on it?
Wonder how this went over with Mom. Especially since she's an elementary school principal. I'm sure she isn't thrilled.
I think Michael is just acting a bit immature. Remember, the guy grew up without a dad and is now a huge celebrity with a lot of money at a young age. Give him some time to grow up a little.
Well, I am impressed. He took responsibility. Doesn't matter if it was before or after the story broke. He could have just kept denying it, but he didn't.
IMO, he should not be banned from competition. Marijuana is NOT a performance enhancing drug. In addition, he is on a vacation from training and competing. This is not a "serious" violation, IMO. We will just have to wait and see.
I think it is sad that celebrities have no hope of living a normal life.
Didn't Gary Hall Jr. get banned for testing positive for marijuana? Phelps hasn't failed a drug test ... yet.
Fox News has a story with a statement issued by Phelps.
It's like he says, he's 23 years old....not that I am condoning drug use, but he is still a kid. He's a celebrity and everything he does will be scrutinized by everyone. But as the "face" of swimming, what message is he sending to the kids who idolized him?
It is troubling to me that he has stated numerous times in the past (and even in his book) that he doesn't put anything bad into his body and that he welcomes drug and doping tests. Let's see how this story changes how welcome he is to testing in the future.

You are impressed he smoked weed? It clearly does matter that it was after the story broke. He's had since November to impress you before the story broke. So, now it's impressive to smoke weed, have your picture published doing that and admitting it is true. I don't think you are impressed but, impressionable.
In the past three or four years he has received a DWI and been caught on film smoking pot. That wouldn't be so well received in my house.
We all know he's probably the best swimmer ever but is certainly prone to massive errors in judgment, at best.
