Michael Phelps and a bong? Is there any truth to this?

are we sure that's Phelps?
If true, he seems to have a habit of screwing up in the very next Novembers after Olympics...
anyone here from the UK? How reputable is "news of the world"?
How could he be so careless?

Seriously Carlos...your rantings draw out the cliquish yukster in people...
I've lurked these boards w/o posting long enough to know that certain ppl are cliquish regardless of whether I post or not. I go months w/o posting, and every time I lurk and/or post, they're doing the same thing.
I bet I am faster than you would have been after a 25 year layoff!
:D
Why are you quoting me? You should quote geek.
It's not the first time that he/they have tried to talk smack about swimming w/ me. I've just never called them on it.
So now I'm calling them on it.
EVERYBODY knows that waffles are Belgian!!! And I would argue that fried chicken is more an emblem of the South than it is of African-American culture! But then again, I'm just an Engineer.
Actually, EVERYBODY knows some turkey and some mistletoe, help to make the season bright...sorry a month or so late...
I do like waffles and chicken, btw, and I'm white.
So you're un-American in your America.
Can you go back to your hole with D2?
Translation: :whiteflag:
You're all talk regarding swimming knowledge.
EVERYBODY knows that waffles are Belgian!!! And I would argue that fried chicken is more an emblem of the South than it is of African-American culture!
Chicken AND waffles at the same time is very African-American.
Little wonder that geek called it un-American in his rants about his America.

I'll call you on your nonsense bragging, Carlos. How do these add up to numerous fina top 3 rankings?
Reading impaired?
I'll put my top 10 times in a brutal age group up against yours any day of the week.
Calling me out on what? The only ppl that talk smack to my face w/ impugnity are those in the upper echelons of the sport.
Here's the thing, Fortress: most ppl that beat me don't talk smack out of respect for a good competitor.
I only talk smack to my friends and guys who are at my level and w/ whom I have that type of a relationship.
You don't know me, and yet you sit here and attack my swimming on more than one occasion.
Put up or shut up.
He would have fared better with the media and most Americans had he gotten on NATIONAL TELEVISION...wagged his finger at the camera and said...I DID NOT HAVE RELATIONS WITH THAT JOINT! Then...everyone would just ignore it....
The FACT is he did MORE than most of the sports "role models" have EVER done in the past. DENY DENY DENY...OH...MY BAD I DID do it...He is 23..SURE he smoked some pot and broke the law...SO WHAT...I break the law DAILY pulling out of my neighborhood. While 23 IS considered an adult....I am going to get blasted for this...but individuals between the ages of 21 and 26 or so...are still flippin MORONIC KIDS...ESPECIALLY MALES! He is in COLLEGE...you know a place where you are trying to find yourself...figure out WHO you want to be and WHAT you want to be doing for the rest of your life...I am not saying smoking pot is cool or legal....he did it...HE ADMITTED it...that is about all we can ask of him...I APPLAUD him for MANNING UP and telling the truth when it came out...as I have said before...ITS FLIPPIN MORE than our elected officials do...and we all just keep electing them back in for doing the same thing EVERY FLIPPIN YEAR...LIE LIE LIE, DENY DENY DENY...hes young and dumb...cut him a break
I wonder if the quote by the great Charles Barkley would be good for this situation?
"I am not a role model"- Charles Barkley
The problem for Phelps is that his sponsors expect him to be a role model, so the bottom line could be taking a hit.
Kind of dumb to be smoking it and possibly decreasing your endurance - if you are eating a zillion calories a day anyway, you could put it in brownies instead. Same net effect, although slower. Or so I'm told...

So Phelps gets to keep his some of his most prized sponsors, eh? Lucky him.
Do you think if this were November 2004 and Phelps only had his six golds instead of "greatest olympian ever" title that most of his sponsors would still keep him after a picture like this? Was four years ago a completely different era, already? Food for thought.
