Michael Phelps and a bong? Is there any truth to this?

are we sure that's Phelps?
If true, he seems to have a habit of screwing up in the very next Novembers after Olympics...
anyone here from the UK? How reputable is "news of the world"?
How could he be so careless?
Whew. I only read through 5 pages. People are UPSET.
For me, personally, this couldn't have come out at a more ironic time. My husband (police officer) just had to deal with a 12 year old selling pot to 10 year olds. Luckily, one of the 10 year olds mom's was monitoring the cell phone use. I NEVER thought I'd have to talk to my almost 9 year old about pot, etc. at this age. But we did, just last week. We have seen WAY too many lives ruined by drugs and we absolutely DO NOT want our children engaging in that behavior.
Now I need to explain further to my kids, as my daughter, 6, went around the house yelling, "Michael Phelps used drugs!" We SO talked him up during the Olympics and all about his achievements. "Rucy dear, we got some 'splainin to do!"
I just find it disappointing b/c swimming was FINALLY getting the "play" it deserves in the American public, and now the "face of American swimming" is caught smokin' dope.
Come on, Speedo didn't sign him because he is a roll model - they signed him because he swims fast. And kids don't want to buy the latest LZR because Michael Phelps is a good person, they buy it because they see what Phelps was able to accomplish using that suit.
There are excuses and then their is perspective. He tried pot - there is no indication he is a "pot head" or he most likely would have tested as such on one of his many drug tests. I believe someone tried to compare him the Michael Vick - are you kidding me? This would barely constitute a misdemeanor charge, assuming he was not carrying around a one pound sack of grass in his back pocket.
However, you DO have an avatar featuring someone who is clearly inebriated to the point of falling down, while using the word "pimpy" in your sig line ("Pimp" presumably synonomous with "cool" - a usage that I loathe). Are these OK for impressionable youngsters to see and do because theyre legal?
Why are you picking on my avatar? Have you seen TJ's? Don't be fooled by the puppy!!!
If all of the cocaine was laced and all of the drug dealers and/or their "customers" died, phew, work would be a lot quieter for my husband!
I, for one, think our society can do without drug dealers and the crap they push. But I can't really control society, or the decisions of others, ie Phelps. All I can do is educate my children to make the choices that are best for them.
Prolly why so many ppl have you on ignore.
But not you, apparently. You knowledge of drugs and porn seems oddly out of balance with your knowledge of spelling.
Ok already - those of you who have kids tell it them straight - if you smoke pot you can , lose money, respect, your job, damage your health, piss off mom and dad, among other things; tell them something they "get", something that means something to them. Don't prattle on about it - be honest. Kids want you to be honest not hysterical because no matter what age they are now (and they know far more than we give them credit for), when and if they find out you layed some BS on them, watch out. Those of you who don't have kids yet - boy are things going to change in your mind when you do.
Phelps did something that millions do everyday (with out the worldwide ramifications) and he will pay in some manner - like possibly lose some endorsements or cash or cache (and yes Speedo did hire him because hes FAST, not for the milk and cookies). Yes-smoking pot is illegal. He lives in a fish bowl and he has to remember he isn't "normal", and doesn't live a "normal" existance - we all can't wait for 2012 (maybe not all out there). Was it stupid because he could damage his health however small that possibility may be? Was he stupid because he did it publically and got "caught"? Or is he stupid because he dissapointed some of us and now we have to do our jobs explaining to our kids what happened and why it isn't a good thing - are we pissed because now it makes us uncomfortable? Bottom line he did a dumb thing and he did it to himself - if he's not going to learn from that, he won't ever learn.
Personally, I see that stretch of "eat, sleep, swim" wasn't the best thing for him - he wasn't able to figure some of these things out along the way and he isn't as savvy at 23 as some of us are. He's got bigger problems with mom - maybe that's good and maybe her disapointment is the real key to his growth.
Lets get on to other things, please, I need some help with my backstroke starts - you can't grip the edge of the pool with your toes??? when did that change?
Maybe b/c we've um... seen these things being done?
Good for you, wingnut. If all that was required to be good at something was seeing it I'd be entering my 19th season in the NBA. Obviously in your acute and detailed seeing of all things parenting you failed to pick up on the fact that most real parents don't really want advice from those without kids, unless it is requested. But, hey, thanks for offering the unsolicited advice based on your experience in a seedy part of town - that really helps!
honor: to show a courteous regard for
Every young kid loves their parent, even when they're odious drug dealers. Unconditional love won't last forever though. And being a parent is decidedly different than observing.
I have no intention of showing a "courteous regard" for lying, cheating and illegal behavior. "Honor" is still the wrong word choice, at least to me.
I just happen to think that getting some pot that has been laced by Al Qaeda is extremely unlikely.
As for drugs being laced in general, I know that this happens. But on a large scale by Al Qaeda? Possible, but not probable. I suppose Al Qaeda could also lace peanut butter with some salmonella too.
It the remote possibility exists, then why risk it? Same reason I don't swim in the ocean by myself with a bleeding cut at the crack of dawn. If we are afraid of terrorists contaminating our food, doesn't it make sense to have this concern about the drug trade when the ones involved in it are less than honest?
At least I know the ingredients in my peanut butter generally get inspected and the source of some toxin is much easier to trace. Comical to think some drug dealer would announce a recall of stuff he sold should it turn out to be tainted.
In any case, you have to question the wisdom of any world class athlete that is reckless in what they ingest or inhale whether it be in the form of supplements, PEDs, or other drugs.
