Rear deltoids

I am a mid distance freestyle swimmer that seems to suffer from pain in my rear deltoids and upper triceps. My recovery time from this pain is exceedingly slow, especially after long workouts. I essentially feel like my pull has no power behind it, and the soreness tends to linger for 3-4 days after certain workouts. Is this a normal area to have soreness in relation to a freestyle stroke? Do I need more warmup, cooldown, etc.?

When I have had a particularly hard workout (3000-3500 meters) with tougher intervals (200s on the 3:00, 100s on the 1:30) I definitely feel my tris and delts the next day. But I can loosen them up in the next day's workout. I am 49 and expect to be a bit sorer than my younger days. But 3-4 days does seem to be a pretty long recovery. What do you do for warm up? Cool Down? Perhaps you need to really warm down a bit more that is your custom. Also, make sure you get some decent food in your system right after workout. I alwyas have one of those Naked Juice drinks and pound it. Rob
