Does membership with USA Swimming (not USMS) require any sort of attachment to a specific club? Or, in other words, can I join USAS and go swim whatever meets they have as an "unattached" swimmer. The master's program I swim with only had USMS affiliation.
On a similar note, do times achieved in a USMS meet have any sort of merrit for making Q times for something like a Grand Prix meet?
Stop broadcasting my whereabouts! I'm trying to swim in secret so no one can poke fun at my times. :D
Good luck with THAT. Well, hopefully _someone_ won't find your times and post them here.
I'm swimming at MLK and Fortress is at PGS. I don't see a meet at the Freedom Center on the PVS schedule.
that's cause the freedom center is in prince william county, which is not a part of PVS... the teams that swim out of that pool are part of the VA LSC...

Hmm, there was a PVS meet listed at the Freedom Center for next month but it showed as cancelled. Thanks for the info, I didn't even think about that.
When I do USA Swimming meets, do I give the this form to the meet director at the USAS meet or what? How do you know if a pool's measurement is already on file. Just wondering what to do before I do any USAS meets.
plus a copy of a valid pool measurement form if not already on file

The Top Ten person from your LMSC should be able to check if it is on file. Do this before the meet.
Also, if the meet has movable bulkheads, the measurements need to be verified (for each session) even if the "permanent" measurements are on file.
The information is at this link:
www.usms.org/.../lmsc_hb_rectab.pdf
The relevant part about swimming in a course with a movable bulkhead is on page 4, at the bottom:
"Pools with a moveable bulkhead should be measured as a permanent course and kept on file. Then, at the conclusion of each session, a responsible person must confirm the length by re-measuring the two outside lanes and a center lane. It is recommended that the length also be confirmed before each session of competition."
Note that USA-S is sometimes more lax about pool measurement than USMS; don't just assume that the pool has been measured/verified just b/c it is a USA-S meet.
Once you've swum the meet, alert your Top Ten person about your swims and give them a link to the meet results (preferably a Meet Manager file if available).
What is the deal with USA-S meet that require your own timers for the longer events. Gosh, don't everyone who goes to these meets are on active teams. Well, when I have to do some of these meets this summer, hopefully I can get some of my bros to go that I train with. Crazy! I guess that they have their reasons for all these rules.
Tom,
I think that they have given up on trying to get volunteer timers for the distance sections. Just this weekend we came || this close to stopping the meet 3-4 times because we could not get enough timers (at only 2 per lane instead of the recommended three), even tho the spectator section was FILLED with parents. And it was worse during today's 500s.

That is good to know, but there never seems to be a problem with getting volunteer timers at Masters meet. Then again, the timers always seem to be the high school or age groupers at whatever pool I do the meet at. Wow, parents just sitting there. My My My, times have changed in age group meets. Of course, there are exceptions such as you, Leslie, and Stevenson just to name a few.
Not a good excuse. I'm an official and I'm always getting "stuck" there after my kids finish.
I'm guessing it's because they are spending yet another weekend of 4-8 hours a day at the pool, and they don't want to get "stuck" there after their kid does his last event that session.

Except that most USA-S sessions are 2-3 hours at most. For example, the 9-10 sessions this past weekend were 2 hours.
