  • Along these lines, I noticed in some of your pictures that your toes appear to be going in an impossible direction vis a vis the rest of your legs. This obviously gives your kicks an extra oomph. Mark and I were laughing about some shots like that; I think he made the comment that my foot looked broken. I had no idea they looked like that -- or, for that matter, that my knees were as bent as they appear in the photos. It would be interesting to compare similar shots to other swimmers of various kicking ability to see how much of a difference there is. I think underwater photography/videography is a very cool tool. My (very) flexible ankles are nothing I had to work for, completely God-given. I agree that they are the main reason for my ability to kick well. Too bad I didn't get larger feet (I'm a size 9.5) to go along with the ankles, but oh well!
