I've been working on a set of short, medium and long term goals. Still contemplating what the medium and long term goals are, but will post those to my blog around New Year's Day, once I've committed to myself.
As for 2009, these are straightforward, but still somewhat ambitious:
Training: At the start of each season/month/week, lay out a training plan and then stick with it. Training plan should include a set of "must do" workouts followed by a set of "nice to have" additions.
I have done this for the SCY season and, as I posted today in my blog (forums.usms.org/blog.php, I'm on target for the meager two initial weeks.
Competition:
Swim every event at least once in a meet in the SCY season.
Beat target times in at least 2 of my 4 target events:
500 free: go under 4:40
went 4:52 in 2008, but SCM time converts to about 4:46
400 IM: go under 4:05
went 4:17 in 2008, but SCM time converts to about 4:11
200 free: go under 1:44
went 1:48.8 in 2008, but SCM time coverts to about 1:46
200 IM: go under 1:56
didn't swim in 2008, but went 2:02.7 in 2006 and my SCM time converts to 1:58.4
The 200 times might be too ambitious as hitting those would get me back to practically lifetime bests.
I laid out in my initial blog (forums.usms.org/blog.php what I think I need to do to achieve this.
1. Swim faster at Auburn than I did last time I did the meet (2007).
2. Use SDK more on start and turn.
Ande - I really like the song. My husband, a musician and a picky one at that, listened to it as well and said it is excellent.
- Average 3.5 training sessions in the pool per week
- Yoga twice a week
- weights twice a week
- KICK!!!!!!!!
- find a technique coach to go over all my strokes (anyone have any suggestions in the Wash, DC area?)
- Lose 22.5 pounds by Oct (2.5lbs per month)
Mine are:
to go under 2:10 in my 200 yard Fly
to be around the 4:30 mark in my 400 yard IM
attempt to get my first TT time in yards, probably be in the 1000 or 1650
be in the 5:10-5:18 range for my 500 Yard free.
swim USA Swimming Meets
do more Open Water Swims
I still have a week to think about it right?
To start:
No injuries from lifting. Good form.
No injuries from bad technique. Good technique.
Make at least one SCY meet.
Work on making my kick fast every practice.
Actually do fly in practice.
Work my turns in practice, especially on back. What is SDK?
Shoot, that's enough.
+ SDKs off every wall, expecially when I'm tired

Definately agree with this one. I've been working hard on this recently.
also want to go 24. for the 50m free - which is a big ask as my pb is 26.2
and also 57. for 100m - again a big ask as i'm currently on 59.4!
train more, train hard and enjoy it.
