Where do you live?(and who are you?)

My comment about Jim Thorton being in the Eastern Media::D led me to wonder how many Forumites are on the E Coast as it seems lots of Y'all run into each other at meets. So where are you from. Also,I know many of you want to remain anonymous, but I'd like more people to fill out their profile.People talk about how they did at a meet, but without a name I can't look them up.
  • North Carolina is probably the fastest growing, most progressive state on the East Coast: excellent public schools I've heard they teach creationism in the elementary schools. Just another reason to move to Arizona. :)
  • I've heard they teach creationism in the elementary schools. Just another reason to move to Arizona. :) A little bit of doctoring of my post, eh? Universities (public and private) are great in NC. Can't speak to public schools, but hey, if you can buy a B70, you can probably afford to send your kid to a private school in North Carolina where evolution is taught. You'd still come out ahead on the cost of living as compared to Northern Virginia. How does one survive in that area?
  • How does one survive in that area? It's freakin' ridiculous! Judging from my recent grocery bills, I have no choice but to start starving the children.
  • It's freakin' ridiculous! Judging from my recent grocery bills, I have no choice but to start starving the children. Speaking of grocery stores, I have always noticed that when I come to visit my parents in suburban Maryland that the grocery store aisles are so much more narrow than the ones here. You literally have to wait on somebody to move or make them move. On the other hand, in the D.C. area, you can go to the store and be anonymous. What a relaxing feeling. Not the case down this way. When I used to do child support cases, I felt like I was always looking over my shoulder lest there be a non-custodial parent behind me in line at the grocery store. You have to be careful in small towns not to make too many enemies or else you may have to switch grocery stores.
  • Can't speak to public schools... I was learned all the way from 1st grade through colej in North Carolina public skulz. Don't y'all say nuttin' bad bout dat!
  • I live in Sag Harbor. It's a coastal community. Surrounded by bays, a few miles from the ocean, and lots of tourists in the summer. Sunset Ohh! (sigh) That's why BuffCat has mysterious smile on his face. Where did Gatsby live, and Daisy Buchanan -- East Egg and West Egg? Are they for real? Near you? :) Er, Chicago. Lovely city (see under "Crime Spree"). Especially if you can run fast. On amazing inland sea. The Swim Club hiked through ice and slush and dark of night to meet this morning at a French bakery and discuss doing a second polar bear plunge on Inauguration Day. Maybe shimmy down the ice fishing holes.
  • I live so close ("christian" - not too many Amish, but lots of Mennonites and Church of the Breathern - and since I am not, it can be a bit uncomfortable. Still, you can always count on your neighbor if you need help. There is a Saturday-only farmer's/flea market a few miles away where you can get ANYTHING, especially Amish baked goods. The bane of my existance, however, is a septic system that needs constant attention - yuck. -LBJ can't top the amish baked goods
  • It's freakin' ridiculous! Judging from my recent grocery bills, I have no choice but to start starving the children. You think you've got problems? Every time I go home there's a crowd of teens bellied up to the kitchen table shovelin' it in. I keep threatening to send their parents a bill for the groceries.
  • I 88 we moved from Houston to south of Portland,OR.Houston has great people and great food, but lousy air, lousy climate, lousy bugs etc.OR is beautiful and we have great weather all summer(the heat at last Nats was an aberration.)Of course the rest of the year it drizzles, but no where is perfect.
  • I've mulled this "where to live" thing over many times. DC/Northern Virginia is lovely in the fall and spring. BUT it's a horrible allergy inducing, allergy suffering, swamp! Having grown up and been educated in MN, NH and IL, I'm over cold weather. So the best place to go is clearly Arizona. :) Won't happen, though, Mr. Fort is opposed and dreams of living in the Raleigh/Durham area. That probably won't happen for him though, as I am just not a southern bell. :D I have to say that I miss seeing the black squirrels. They aren't any in the Philly area. Plus, I miss the Metro. You can work in downtown in DC, use the Metro without the hassles and time consumption of the Philly Septa System. July in DC is insanely hot.
