Check out this clip of the 100 Free at the '92 Barcelona Olympics. Notice in particular the equipment (or the lack of it). Biondi and Popov aren't even wearing swimming caps. With all this talk of high tech equipment lately, watching this was quite liberating!
Also watch the 50 Free with Jager, Biondi and Popov. Notice how wrinkled Jager's cap is! That race had two former 50m WR holders (Biondi and Peter Williams), one current WR holder (Jager) and one future WR holder (Popov). That was quite something.
I saw in the clip that Mark Foster from GBR was in the lane assignments for the 92 Games. Wow! Plus, I read on the net that he qualified for the Seoul Games. Matt Biondi looks like a totally different person today.
