I see there is a new face near the top of the US Swimming for Short Course..... Dagny Knutson out of a North Dakota program. She is as fast as Janet Evans was in the 500 and practically as fast as Natalie Coughlin right now in the 200. Her 100 is as fast a Dara was at her age as well. This is quite impressive. She trounced the fastest boys times at her high school state meet. 100yd free 48.33 200 yd free 1:42.81 500 yd free 4:34.78 I don't remember her placing in the top 16 at Trials this summer. Then again, I am getting old. I don't remember her name even a year ago at US Nationals. John Smith

Yes, her 100 free LCM and SCY was very good last year, but it doesn't look like she turned in a time in the 500 or 400m free that was even close to top 16 in her age group. I presume she didn't swim the event that often. Usually it takes a lot of background and middle distance/distance training to swim the 500 and 400m free. To jump from the 100/200 to the 500 in one year with such impressive speed is interesting. This girl was fast last year with a 1:48 200 free..... top 5 in her age group..... 6 more second drop from there ...... that's impressive. John Smith
