in one of my workouts i got 75m free sprint sets under 1min:20sec. (i did each under 1:07 - keep in mind i swim just 4 weeks) wonder why not 100m? of course i had 50's assigned.

Typically, when I write a program that involves 75's for my Hamden North Haven Swim Team, I usually will increase the rep's in comparison to swimming 100's and I will drop the times down a bit. Also, I will do the first 50 at a certain pace and the last 25 at a faster/slower pace and vice versa.
In theory, the 75's are great for building endurace (pending setup of the workout), but they are also excellent for building sprint speed. Contrary to the 100's which (unless structured differently) will be treated more as a mid-distance swim than a sprint - which it should be...
I hope that helps explain a little bit of the theory...
