Not sure if this has been asked here... For me, the first reason is that I don't want to be drowned in case of accident  . The last reason is that I'm proud to tell people I swim :D . In between there are a lot of other reasons.
What about you?
Swimming has been my life.
If I hadn't swum as a kid and if the ADHD diagnosis had been around then, I probably would've been doped up on something to calm me down. Swimming is my mood stabilizing drug of choice ... and my parents' tool of choice to deplete my energy
I swim because I'm hyper-competitive ... and I absolutely suck at every land sport I ever tried.
I swim because my dad swims ... and my kids swim because I swim ... circle of life kind of thing
I swim because I need to meditate ... but sitting on a mat for two hours just doesn't do it like cranking out some yards in a pool
I swim for those rare moments of "perfect flow" when my mind is clear, my stroke is perfectly connected with the water and I feel like I'm flying on top of the water
