USMS national championship meets shall be awarded in the following categories and held during the
following dates, at venues located within the boundaries of USMS:
Rationale: To assure that USMS National Championship Meets are held at venues within USMS.
How about we don't hold Nats in an outdoor pool if the temperature is likely to be over 100 and no meets where the altitude is over 1000 ft.
Rules out Arizona...although I think high altitude and high temperatures put hair on your chest. I think they need to not be so stuck on May. April in Arizona would be nice and avoid heat stroke.

Agreed but there are issues with having an SCY meet in AZ during April.
Facilities: There are probably only three facilities in the state that could possibly host the meet (ASU, U of A, and Brophy). ASU and U of A are on university campi so you have that issue to contend with. Brophy is a nice pool and is in a great area but they have neighbours who don't dig all the traffic a swim meet would bring.
Size: Nationals in AZ would be a HUGE event, even with warm weather. 2003 SCY was a biggie and I suspect that any future one would be large as well. This is a major undertaking which leads me to...
Desire: I have not discerned a burning desire to hold Nationals in AZ. There has been some talk about it but nothing urgent. If somebody in AZ wants to host Nationals, they need to want it BADLY because this meet is a lot of work.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Nationals in AZ again. 2003 SCY was a great event and we all had fun being a part of it. To host it again though will require that one of the teams express a desire to host it and that they are willing to do everything necessary to make it a success.
Over-legislation IMHO. If you don't want a meet outside the US, then vote against it. It really is that simple.
Just a thought, maybe if we had more bids for Nationals then we would not be discussing this. Maybe that is what we should be spending our time on.
Rather than improve the number and quantity of bids, we want to limit where bids can come from? Puh-leeze. Fiddling while Rome burns.
Paul....your going to be a fine addition to the championship committee!
In fairnessI will bring this up again...if any of us would like to see nationals held in a certain part of the country then help out!
By the way...saw the great big hole in the ground where the new 30m x 25m outdoor pool is being built at U of A....were going to bust our butts to get short course nationals back to AZ sometime in the next few years!
