One 100 free to go in set. Two open lanes.(no lane lines in pool) Noodler comes over to stand in my lane to talk with friend. Pool is set at 85 degrees cause all the noodlers say it is to cold otherwise. I complain to guard, am told, "well there are a lot more of them then there are lap swimmers" Wont be if they keep this up. UGH! :frustrated:
Elaine - I'm home sick today (blah, no swimming w/a fever!) & so have spent the entire morning reading all 303 posts. I'm sorry for your plight, however, now that it is all said & done, I would go somewhere else. I know swimming there is "free" to you since you pay the HOA fees, but at what cost? If you try hard enough, you can set an internal clock to get yourself up earlier! (Not only miss the noodlers, but the water may be cooler!) - or you should maybe consider what others have said and join a masters group. You are fortunate to live near a large area where there are masters groups - our city has none, so I would be driving 2-3 hours one way to swim w/a coached group. Plus the masters group would offer you socializing in the locker rooms, coaching & exclusive rights to the lanes during your workout. Your husband sounds very understanding - maybe there is even a group that practices in the evenings and you wouldn't have to get up early at all? And he could busy himself playing golf (or cooking dinner!) while you workout. I know you've been picked on by these nut cases, but maybe this is an opportunity for you to explore new things & make new friends?

Well, the closest Masters team is a 50 minute drive each way. They practice at night which doesn't work for me AT ALL, because it messes up my sleep. And it means driving dark back country roads home.
As for adjusting my internal clock to wake up earlier, that wasn't my concern. My husband used to have to get up for work at 4:45am for many years, so I promised him we wouldn't have to wake up early, once he retired. He does so much for me already (one being that he already cooks dinner for me!) that I didn't think it was fair to ask him to adjust his sleep/wake schedule for my swimming. That was all besides the point, however, because there wasn't a valid reason for asking me and other swimmers to vacate our dedicated swim lanes for their classes; especially since the class size averages 6-8 in a 5 lane, 25 yard pool! (I'm sorry, but not wanting to get your hair wet in a swimming pool is NOT a valid reason. :shakeshead: )
The good news is I finally scored a victory last week, thanks to the sanity of the leader who realized that maybe a compromise was long overdue. As of last week, the 9am indoor class moved to 9:30 and the 10:00 outdoor class moved inside to 10:30, like it used to be last winter season. It's rotten for the later swimmers who are now banned from the indoor pool for two hours each day, but it's a huge plus for me getting that extra half hour. :banana:
