Michael Phelps Conquered the Olympics,
But Can He Conquer Sports Marketing?
Staying relevant, and rich, after Beijing

Let's hope there is some good stuff in this book. I didn't read his first book but that was before Athens and before the DUI so it was probably quite boring. After all his interviews, I might be intrigued to get this one. Plus, he will put training and competition tips as well. After his interview with Bob Costas, I don't feel bad for not acknowledging all the people that treated me like crap during my upbringing in swimming.
Jason Lezak was just on the Jim Rome is Burning show. I am still shocked that he had a swimmer. Then again, I know that he had Kazelberg years ago after Sydney. Now, Let's see if Rome will have a swimmer during a non-Olympic year. Who knows, Maybe Lezak will get an underwear campaign or something. Hopefully, Nike will finally give Lezak a bigger contract now than Cullen Jones. I am assuming that Jones is their second high swimmer on their payroll behind Peirsol. Poor Hansen, if that is the case. Nike, pay that great swimmer, please.
I was just channel surfing through college football and stopped on the Utah V. Michican game on ESPN ..
And did you notice how the Utes are kicking some Wolverine butt?

Phelps Celebrates Gold at Walt Disney World
Michael Phelps Wins Record-Setting Gold in Beijing... What's He Doing Next? He's Going to Disney World!
Last update: 11:00 a.m. EDT Aug. 29, 2008
LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL, Aug 29, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- Direct from the Beijing Games where he won a record eight Gold Medals, world champion swimmer Michael Phelps celebrated his unprecedented achievement with an all-American homecoming parade in his honor at Walt Disney World Resort.
In a star-spangled salute amidst confetti and thousands of flag-waving fans in the Magic Kingdom, Phelps was honored for his record-setting wins and for the spirit in which he captivated the world in his quest for Gold.
The 23-year-old from Baltimore beamed as he rode through the park alongside Mickey Mouse, waving to fans who chanted his name. Magic Kingdom guests joined in "America's Homecoming Parade" for the swimmer who broke records in each event he entered in Beijing.
For Phelps, who also was honored in Disney parades at both Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland Park in California following the 2004 Summer Games, it was a sweet homecoming to the United States and to see fans who supported him in his quest for Gold in Beijing.
"I am so happy to celebrate here and see some of the fans who supported me," said Phelps. "It's great to feel so much excitement around the sport of swimming in the U.S. and around the world. To top it all off with a parade at Disney World is just incredible."
During his celebration in the Magic Kingdom, Phelps also took time to meet a group of local swimmers from the central Florida area. The aspiring young swimmers had the chance to talk with Phelps, ask about his record-breaking experiences and see the Gold Medals he won in Beijing.
Phelps' celebration at Walt Disney World is planned to be the next feature on his wildly popular Facebook.com page. Phelps, one of the most popular public figures on the social networking site, has nearly 1.5 million Facebook "fans" who have subscribed to receive his latest news and updates. Phelps said he plans to offer photographs and video of his Walt Disney World visit on his Facebook.com site.
Phelps, who has announced he will train for the 2012 Games, now owns the record for most Gold Medals in a single event (8) and for a career (14). For more information and videos please visit www.newsinfusion.com.

Michael Phelps set to cameo on Entourage

Annie posted earlier today about Michael Phelps' upcoming hosting duties on Saturday Night Live. The Olympic swimming champ isn't wasting any time capitalizing on his stardom, because now he's also landed a cameo on HBO's Entourage.
According to the World Entertainment News Network, the eight-time gold medal winner will appear as himself in an upcoming episode of the buddy-series, which begins its fifth season on Sept. 7.
Phelps certainly must have some good people working with him, because in addition to hosting SNL, he'll be among the presenters at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 7.
I'm sure there are dozens of other gigs and endorsements lined up for him. Maybe The Powers That Be will take note of Allison's post earlier this month, and recruit the man-dolphin for Heroes, Lost, NCIS, House, or The Man From Atlantis.
At the very least, maybe he'll pick up a few pointers from Vince and the boys, and form his own entourage. If he's lucky, he'll find an assistant as cool as Lloyd -- and an agent as ruthless and relentless as Ari.

I was just channel surfing through college football and stopped on the Utah V. Michican game on ESPN when they cut to a shot of Michigan's swimming pool to inform the people viewing, this is where Michael Phelps trained. I guess you have to make the cake while you can..
I suppose that's more interesting than Phelps writing an old book!
:joker: Scientific American did a special issue titled Life in the Universe. The next month it published a letter from, I'll say, a reader in the boonies, along the lines of "It's true we live pretty far away from the hub of scientific discoveries, but I'm looking forward to your next special, Life Elsewhere."
I hope Jason Lezak gets a little trickle-down love from M. Phelps.

Since one of the story lines in Entourage was the Vince character refusing to replay his fictitious role in Aquaman for the sequel. Phelps would be the obvious replacement.
