I have a hard time not breathing while i do my 50 freestyle, is there some kind of exercise i could do don't tell me DON'T BREATH because i tried, and it doesn't work. Ha. I need a slow exercise that will get me to not breath for at least 21 seconds.. When doing back stroke, how many dolphin kicks are you allowed in a meet? And in freestyle my dolphin kick sucks, but its SO good for backstroke i don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Who says you can't breathe? Here is Ian Thorpe breathing to his left on every stroke cycle: www.youtube.com/watch Otherwise, tissues must be well oxygenated. Do a good warmup, try breath control at some point in the workout and gradually bring down the number of breaths to the lowest number in the last 50m. Very few don't breathe at some point during 50m. I would set a reasonable goal, and build in one or two more breaths on the return 25 than on the outbound 25. Example: If you normally breathe 10X (example purposes only), maybe work for 6 breaths on the outbound, 7 on the inbound. Or breathe every 7 or 9 strokes on the outbound, every 5 or 7 on the inbound. You have to get there gradually. That's how I would do it. Do you have a coach? Yes I have a coach but right now I am practicing on my own time, because swim season has not started for me yet I'm a Senior in HS, my 50 free time is a 24.5 at best and on bad days 26s I usually do 2 - 3 breaths and i wanted to do no breaths on the 50.. but i guess its just inhumane? lol. Thanks for reminding me its on the 15m to surface LindsAy! I'm pretty sure my coach told me that but i forgot! Anyone got any tips for improving dolphin kick on free style flip turn ? As in belly down to water because belly up to the water Im good in.
