pretty low class of bottom to file protest. i would have looked at the video to confirm but that should be enough. it's clear from the video phelps' finger flex upward first (from the super-slow-mo underwater shot). people who think cavic won...come on. there are two explanations:
1) cavic's touchpad is faulty. if it didn't work, it would most likely not even register a touch. it's clear from the video that the difference between phelps and cavic is less than 5 hundredths. so is he going to argue that the pad is off by 1-2 hundredths? the pads are calibrated to a much greater precision than this.
2) the only other explanation is that the results were "rigged". after careful thought it should be clear that "rigging" the results under the constraints of a) getting the "rigged" results to match close enough to viewers' perceptions and b) within the 1 second it takes to get the results from the pads to the scoreboard would require some serious crystal-ball vision. come on now. i thought the us womens' gymnastics teams protests were lame, but this really takes the cake. if you're going to come up with a conspiracy theory at least make one about something that's so cut and dry that its easily disproved
