....our women are disappointing. Youth is not helping us. Good swims from Magnuson, Soni, Coughlin, and Torres. Any others?

Julia Wilkinson, Texas A&M's best female swimmer, has done quite nicely in Beijing. Not a medalist - but a finalist in 200IM, semis in 100 back, and I think she lowered several Canadian records.
  • This message is for Maui Mike alone. "The squirrel is in his nest next Tuesday." If you don't know what this means, Mike, my apologies. But I am pretty sure you do. And as any former operative understands, squirrels in nests must be...dealt with effectively. I will be reading the classifieds to see when the job is done. Post results under "microwaves wanted." And yes, my "father" sleeps with "strangers." To Mother Russia!

One gold medal for the American women? Just Coughlin's 100 back? They are coming apart....

Well, I'm just hoping that those gals turn out an incredible medley relay. Hopefully Hoelzer and Torres will have some good swims in their individual events... the women need another pick-me-up before that relay.

There are other swimmers in the world. You are disappointed, again Canada still has a terrible development program. Too many still involved from the past regime, coaches and administration. We need to flush the toilet and get rid of them.

Guess Soni proved you wrong. Be positive!!! I did say Soni was one of the few US women swimming well....

We need to flush the toilet and get rid of them. Hmmmm... I realize that Canada isn't medalling all over the pool, but it SEEMS as if I see a decent number of Canadians in heats/finals. It struck me that for a country with 10% of the U.S population and where swimming isn't a national obsession, that Canada at least seems pretty well represented. Maybe it's an incorrect impression, however. -LBJ

I'm sorry but I will complain about all crappy swims no matter who they come from. Amanda Beard most of all!

I don't know the exact stats but I think the Canadian team is making a lot more finals than in Athens and there are a ton of Canadian records being set, although most swimmers are using the new suits for the first time so one wonders how much that has to do with the records. Hayden not getting into the finals in the 100 was a big blow, the 5th in the men's 4x200 was a let down, although we had two very good legs plus a great leg from Hayden. Brown coming in fourth when his semi time would have got him silver was a bummer. But I think the real dark cloud is just that Canada hasn't won a medal in anything yet and the media is going through its usual mid-games doom and gloom panic. Hopefully the rowers will come though... Ryan Cochrane has swum a 14:50.65 this year, that gives him an outside chance in the 1650.
