My training back into swimming "well-being" goes slowly but surely. What's with the fly kick off the wall? Generations ago they did not do that. Is it primarily limited to sprints, or is it used on all freestyle events?

I wouldn’t get too caught up in the hype of dolphin kicking. If you want more information, you can also do a search for “SDK” on this board. The ability to dolphin kick is best left to the individual. Some people are slower when they use it, others are faster, and still others are faster for only certain distances. Like anything else, the more you do it the better you will become. However, this doesn’t mean that it will make you faster than just coming up and swimming sooner. For instance, in an all out 50 free, it’s slower for almost everyone to dolphin kick more than one or two times (if any at all). In a 100 free, it becomes much more subjective. You should definitely try it, but don’t be bothered if it doesn’t work for you. You won't see people using 10 dolphin kicks underwater after every turn in a 1650--it takes its toll and will make you slower. Just figure out what works best for you.
