sportsillustrated.cnn.com/.../index.html From the man whose WR has been broken four times in the last two months..... I like his attitude. He could never be a USMS swimmer. Too much whining here about everything.
  • Isn't he the guy that smokes you every time you race him...and the reason your avoiding Austin? Gull is speedy for sure and I've enjoyed a cup of coffee on him. The real reason I'm not going to Austin is lack of self control in the presence of tequila. Two of my training buddies are going so I've been doing their work. All I'm really missing out on seeing is the Smiths fighting over who gets to sit next to Fort and compare the benefits of various mini van models. But, hey, there's always Clovis in '09.
  • You can't come to our small peaceful town and rag on NASCAR. That's like me going to Colorado and making fun of hemp clothing and granola bars. My beloved wife, an SEC alum, far superior to any other football or swimming conference, was quite an accomplished age grouper before boys became a higher priority. I will have to reiterate "stranger danger" to my children if you two ever get out of your LZR/Title IX funk induced malaise and come here. ARG - name dropper.
  • I'm with the Geek on this one... NASCAR wouldn't allow just one team to have something new (at least not outright). NASCAR has rules! I like Popov's quotes... they are inspirational, regardless of anyone's perspective of his background. Good poster material with a "generic" hard working swimmer pic.

I think they're mostly inspirational for the non-masters set. Otherwise, the sentiments seem pretty darn obvious to me. Unless you are either stubbornly over-principled or under financed, most people will buy the suit. Plenty of masters have pre-ordered it. I'm sure Mel-Fort has. It makes a difference. 36 WRs is enough "empircal" evidence for me to think it's performance enhancing. I'm not going to Clovis, Geek. I'd rather stick to this coast and get to the bottom of the mystery of whether there really is a Mrs. Geek and whether there's a bell on that tri bike of yours.

Huh? how is FINA not allowing swimmers access to the new suits? Does FINA allocate who signs what endorsement deals with what manufacturers? No. And until they do, could all the FINA bashers get off FINA's back about 'allowing' access to the suits? FINA has nothing to do with it except to say 'yup, it's legal'. Paul

Speaking of Popov, the top THREE swimmers in the 50 free semis at French trials ALL swam under Popov's old World Record. All wearing LZR suits. According to SwimNews Leveaux was wearing the Tyr Tracer Rise. Apparently, it is getting to be time to rag on Tyr.

“Technology is only as good as the athlete’s validation of it and their support and belief in it," So says Steve Furniss, CEO of TYR, in an article on Swimnetwork.com concerning the new TYR Tracer Light. I believe his words subtly address the psychological component of performance swimsuits. TYR certainly believes the Tracer Light is as fast or faster than the LZR. Poor Adidas. www.swimnetwork.com/.../tyr_tracer_rise___faster_than_a_rocket_-10915.html I'm not spending $500 on a suit anytime soon. I need a faster computer more than I need to swim just a bit faster. Or money for gasoline.

There will be, as Ande noted, plenty of the GOOD suits in Austin. Why not develop an Oceans 11 or 12 or 13 scheme to lighten some of the elite lockers of these technological curses? After all, most of them have probably been worn once or twice and are nearly worn out. This is nothing more than technological recycling, much like the Lions Club does with prescription glasses.
  • I am not concerned about access to the suits at the Olympics, the TYR suit is probably about as fast as the LZR and pretty much everyone will have some hightech suit.I am more concerned about the "arms race" in age group and Masters where not everyone wants to spend $550 for a suit that lasts 5 swims.
