I am relatively new to swimming. My question is how quickly you lose fitness during a layoff? I have been sick and my first instinct is to get back in the pool quickly. Any thoughts?

I heard at a seminar that if you exercise even once a week it slows the deconditioning process by 90% if you are already in shape. Geek,if sprinters get out of shape so fast,why do we have to taper longer?
