So I have never started a thread before - but here is something I have not seen before....... My FS Pro came today - and I was told to go slowly and put it on and that it could take up to 30 minutes...... is that for real?? I am at 20 minutes and I am stuck at the hips - for real! It is the high neck body skin..... and if that zipper was about 2 inches longer I could probably get it over my hips and I wouldn't be standing here with my butt hanging out waiting for a reply. If I don't stop laughing I may split something. I know the elite swimmers don't have real hips - but does anyone out there have any suggestions and How long does it take on average to get in one? I'll miss all my events at nationals just trying to get the suit on!!!!
  • Thatis why I am staying with my TYR suits. Although I really need to size down now, I quess 20 pound makes a big difference. My 36 short john goes on in 2 minutes, it took me 30 when I first bought it. One of the sales ladies said I should try a size 30 or 32 now but did not have any available so I guess I will be trying them on at Nationals. I love to shop, especially for suits!

Simple roll it down like a pair of stockings, then step in and roll it up. All females should know how to roll them down then roll them up.

No sooner could you pass a camel through the eye of a needle than step right into one of these things like it was a pair of overalls.

Thanks for asking and thanks for all the good advice from others out there. I have learned that I was going about it all wrong. I have not yet had a chance to try again as I had to give up yesterday when the school bus was coming. I had to leave to get my kids to swim practice which for me means running them to 3 practice times at 2 different pools. I started at 4 and was done around 9. (remember the good old days when the whole team was in one pool all at once??) Anyway - I haven't had time yet today - but I am going to try again tomorrow. I'm wondering if the ones that don't zip are any better. I'll let you know how it goes.

Wow. I'm glad I'm wearing Nike suits at Nationals. Jazz Hands, do you have the Nike Hydra tech suit? If so, have you raced in it, and can you compare it to other brands of tech suits? I like the price of the Nike Hydra full body suit at SwimOutlet. www.swimoutlet.com/.../8087.htm Thanks!
  • OK, so I’m like a surfer dude, right? Like a cold water surfer dude? And so I wear thick wetsuits so as to avoid hypothermia and of course to look cool. And the cool, new wetsuits don’t have zippers, just super stretchy neoprene which can be, to put it mildly, a real *** to get in and (especially) out of. Many’s the post surf-sesh that I’ve spent on the side of the road, partially or even mostly nekkid (‘cuz no real surfer dude wears anything under his suit), wrestling my way out of cold rubber for 20 minutes or so, doing Houdini-like contortions. And so I had a good giggle at all the forum posts whining about how hard the technical suits are to get on and off. “Sounds just like my wetsuits,” thought I, “but being the cool, cold water surfer dude that I am, it will be cake compared to my wetsuit.” 20 minutes after starting to get my new Speedo FS Pro on, I finally had the damn thing sort of over my hips, although still not quite snugged up. I houdini’d into the shoulder straps, and have no idea how I am ever supposed to get the zipper shut, even with some burly 200 pound plus fellow girdle wearing dude tugging for all he’s worth on the zipper, since it gaps about 5” near the top. The straps are chafing my shoulders already, and I was panting, probably a residual effect of the abdominal cramp I got in the first 5 minutes as I was slowly working it over my ankles and calves. And, yes, I got the tall model, although I was on the fence about that. Good thing. I guess it fits, sorta, although I don’t know if I’ll be able to swim in it at all. Maybe they are so fast because they are so damn uncomfortable you can’t wait to get back to the relative safety of the bulkhead and peel the awful thing down? I guess they get a little easier with time and swims in them, but jeez, I better drop some serious time!

  • While we're on the "What is it?" track, I hope to purchase a first-ever wet suit for long OW swims. Could someone please put up some brand names (e.g., I assume a wet suit is different from a Fastskin, but Speedo is silent on the matter), and maybe what I should look for (to avoid hypothermia)? How should the fit feel when I try it on? Would swimming OW in lower Lake Michigan (55 - 75 deg, roughly) v. Alaska (brr!) v. Croatia v. Greece require different suits? :dunno: Many thanks! VB
