Hi, I am not sure I am in the right place, but here it goes. I am a WSI cert. instructor. I have recently been offered a position to Teach and Coach at the highschool level, however I am use to teaching for the past 15yrs children ages 3-14yrs, mostly the little ones. I am not sure where to start to educate myself, how to be a great coach for kids that are 15-18yrs of age and what details I need to know. Any suggestions? Stone

  • Good luck. I became a high school coach after being a swim instructor and age group coach and it was a huge learning curve. Make sure that you get a good assistant and enlist parent help. Talk to your swimmers and find out their expectations, traditions, etc. I also had the team choose captains and they were able to help some. Mostly, I wanted to pull my hair out and scream in a locked room during the season. I'm doing it again next year, and it has to be better. So, good luck.
