strange pain when swimming underwater

After taking a break of an hour or so. I jumped into the pool and started swimming to the bottom of the 12 ft level. I started feeling a sharp stinging pain behind the eye and where the sinus cavity is. When I surfaced the pain would disappear. I tried it a few more times. Same thing. The pain would come back after only a few feet underwater and then disappear when I surfaced. About 45 minutes before this happened, I swam the entire length of the pool underwater a few times. Wonder if I should see a doctor.

It was painful enough that I had to surface immediately. The pain radiated from my eye socket/sinus to my nose. I was concerned that it might be a warning sign of another problem. I noticed when I swam on the surface, after it happened, I was fine and felt strong and healthy. Is this a pretty common thing that isn't necessarily anything serious? Thanks, Dave
