"technological doping": the meme's pickin' up steam!
I'm interested to see if the phrase works its way into the discourse on these suits to the point of becoming a cliche.
IF FINA later bans the suit, will these records stand?
I think they would have to. The suit was legal at the time the records were set. That would be like making a stroke rule change and saying all records set under the previous rule are now invalid.
Rather than continue to listen to the incessant whining of people who want to turn back the clock on swimming, I'd prefer to know at what point/date you would desire to stop the technology advances.
Name a year, state your opinion(s) as to why. Then, after you do that, which will obviously be around the time you were relevant in swimming, please tell me why innovations that assisted you should be allowed, but not subsequent innovations.
In other words, please explain why you should be allowed to benefit from advances in your era but not today's swimmers.
Your subsequent assignment will be to explain how we would attract swimers (including boys who you allege are leaving in packs, not supported by facts) to a sport that is regressing technology, completely and totally in an opposite direction of every other sport out there.
Then, after you do that, which will obviously be around the time you were relevant in swimming
Geek, is there some reason you insist on being so condescending all the time?

I'll reply later, after curling practice.
BTW - I'm not even relevant in my own home, much less outside of it.

No, no...don't respond to the imagined tone (hard to determine in such a medium anyway) but to the logic in the post itself. I don't like the suits -- though not because I think they are providing an unfair advantage -- but Geek raises a good point.
Don't worry about it. FINA doesn't have the guts to ban the suit. The cat is out of the bag. There's no turning back.
Interesting term...... "technology doping". After all, what is the difference between putting on a "superman" suit vs. injecting a needle in your body if they both result in faster swims than you could do without them.
I suppose one is inherently more safe than the other...... :-)
