2008 USMS Message Board Social in Austin at SCY Nationals

2008 USMS Message Board Social in Austin at SCY Nationals :party2: We agreed we should definitely have a gathering so these will take place an hour after the last relay or around 6:30 ish Friday: Shady Grove www.theshadygrove.com Saturday: Moonshine www.moonshinegrill.com Sunday: Scholz www.scholzgarten.net 2 blocks from the pool (the closest bar) I'm thinking Friday or Saturday night to maximize numbers Where ever it is people can just pay for what they order We need to pick the Date Friday or Saturday which do you prefer? Time I think early would be better than later like around dinner time or maybe an hour - hour and a half after relays are done and Location: I suggest somewhere in Central / Downtown Austin that serves both beer and food. if we want to be outdoors we need to watch the weather that day Walking Distance from the Pool + Scholz BierGarten is very close to the pool also The last of the Austin Texas Beer Gardens, open since 1866, and the oldest restaurant in Texas , and two blocks from the University of Texas. www.scholzgarten.net + Brick Oven Pizza on Red River + Serranos on Symphony Square Red River at 11th is pretty cool short drive: + Shady Grove is very cool, www.theshadygrove.com + Iron Works BBQ is nice in a rustic way www.ironworksbbq.com + Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill www.moonshinegrill.com 303 Red River St Austin, TX 78701 (512) 236-9599 "Good American comfort food done well with a fantastic ambiance and great..." + Some where on 6th street Other suggestions Please chime in, let's settle this and have a blast Since I'm here I'm happy to see if we can get a reservation Let me know if you plan on coming so I can get a head count Ande
  • Cinco de Mayo's much bigger deal in San Antonio than it is in Austin San Antonio does a big parade What, does Cinco de Mayo take up an entire weekend now? The 5th isn't until the day after the meet.
  • Shooting for Thursday and Sunday, have plans already on Friday/Saturday. With it being Cinco de Mayo weekend getting in anyplace is going to be a challenge.
  • We'll play it by ear and join the rowdy Forums group as we can. Ditto. I'm flying solo, but a few of my old college teammates will also be there, so I'd like get together with them at some point. Otherwise I'll definitely try to get to the forum events. Sounds much better than eating alone!
  • just bring your friends to the events We're going to be hanging out at the bar waiting for a table we'll also need to decide whether to ask for a section or break away into 4's 6's 8's & 10's sounds like the board made other plans for thursday night so Hula hut is probably out though I plan to be there Ande Ditto. • Hey, if anyone is around the pool late Thursday (probably 4:30ish) I could use a counter in the 1650 :) Right now I'm seeded 9th overall, so I'll either be in the next-to-last or last heat. That's one of the worst things about swimming distance events. You're always looking for a counter!
  • Let's see how it goes, Kirk. Grace & I are doing the 1000 and will be done swimming but will probably be there. If you can't find someone else, one of us will count for you. That would be great, Mel, but don't stick around just on my account. PNA has something like 50 swimmers there, so odds are there might be someone I know at the pool.
  • Mel I can out drink you any place any time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Oh! by the way thanks for that wine!!!! I might even swim drunk on Sunday why don't you join me!!!! Looking forward to seeing you guys!!!!

just bring your friends to the events We're going to be hanging out at the bar waiting for a table we'll also need to decide whether to ask for a section or break away into 4's 6's 8's & 10's Ande, Grace & I will be w/o transportation but may be able to convince Ford Aquatics coach Jim Stites to head to these eateries. He has rented a 5 seat van and, if it works out that we can tag along with him, a few of us might just be able to make most of the rendezvous points. I'll know better after the distance day.
