I think early would be better than later
like around dinner time or maybe an hour - hour and a half after relays are done and
Location:
I suggest somewhere in Central / Downtown Austin that serves both beer and food. if we want to be outdoors we need to watch the weather that day
Walking Distance from the Pool
+ Scholz BierGarten is very close to the pool also
The last of the Austin Texas Beer Gardens, open since 1866, and the oldest restaurant in Texas , and two blocks from the University of Texas.

Like most, I'll be around... no plans set in stone at the moment. Will probably have (in addition to the blue furball) 3 or 4 other Terps who may be interested in tagging along.
We're all coming in Wednesday morning and rolling out Monday afternoon. :roids:
Well, gee, this sucks...
I was planning to visit the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on Friday the 2nd since I've only got the 400 IM that day. I was just looking at the calendar of events on the website (http://www.wildflower.org/) and they are closed that day!
So in case anyone else was planning to visit make sure you don't show up there on Friday.
Anyone have any other suggestions for Austin "must sees" I can do on Friday instead?
If you have a car - take a 30 minute drive to Lake Travis. The Oasis is a popular but mediocre restaurant built on the side of a cliff several hundred feet above the main basis of Lake Travis. Superb view of a beautiful lake. Just have a drink and bring your sunglasses.
Rent a jetski or boat from Just for Fun or at Lakeway Marina.
Eat a fabulous dinner at Hudson's on the Bend. Rich, flavorful, game-influenced food.
I would love to have lunch with y'all after the 1000. I will be in the earlier heat (fun to be 60 and female) so I can eat anytime! Any place near the Doubletree and pool works for me!
I'll have to miss lunch since I will be in one of the later heats of the 1650. I'll just hang at the pool till I'm done.
Look forward to seeing you again Winnie.
I'll stick my neck out and say Friday night at 6. Central Austin highly preferable, as my transportation options are not yet clarified. Would Shady Grove be a short cab ride?
I'll have to miss lunch since I will be in one of the later heats of the 1650. I'll just hang at the pool till I'm done.
Look forward to seeing you again Winnie.
I'm with you, Donna! We can hang out at the pool before/after our 1650s! I still can't believe I signed up for it. While waiting for our heats, can you please help remind me to NOT TO GO OUT TOO FAST!!!!! It's a chronic problem with me.
Ande, this may help in deciding where to go for various nationals get-togethers. From this morning's paper:
Austin, Texas | A $5-per-customer fee on strip club patrons dubbed the "pole tax" has been declared unconstitutional.
The charge was expected to raise about $44 million for sexual assault prevention programs and health care for the uninsured. Judge Scot Jenkins wrote that the fee, "while furthering laudable goals, violates the First Amendment."
Looks like wherever we go, it's gonna be five bucks cheaper now.
called scholz's today
they were planning to close on Sunday at 8
they didn't know about nats said they'd call the swim center
the manager said they'd stay open that night as long as biz is good
I'd think many people are likely to go there
