2008 USMS Message Board Social in Austin at SCY Nationals
:party2:
We agreed we should definitely have a gathering
so these will take place an hour after the last relay or around 6:30 ish
Friday: Shady Grove www.theshadygrove.com
Saturday: Moonshine www.moonshinegrill.com
Sunday: Scholz www.scholzgarten.net
2 blocks from the pool (the closest bar)
I'm thinking Friday or Saturday night to maximize numbers
Where ever it is people can just pay for what they order
We need to pick the
Date
Friday or Saturday which do you prefer?
Time
I think early would be better than later
like around dinner time or maybe an hour - hour and a half after relays are done and
Location:
I suggest somewhere in Central / Downtown Austin that serves both beer and food. if we want to be outdoors we need to watch the weather that day
Walking Distance from the Pool
+ Scholz BierGarten is very close to the pool also
The last of the Austin Texas Beer Gardens, open since 1866, and the oldest restaurant in Texas , and two blocks from the University of Texas.

+ Brick Oven Pizza on Red River
+ Serranos on Symphony Square
Red River at 11th is pretty cool
short drive:
+ Shady Grove is very cool,
www.theshadygrove.com
+ Iron Works BBQ is nice in a rustic way
www.ironworksbbq.com
+ Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill

Well, gee, this sucks...
I was planning to visit the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on Friday the 2nd since I've only got the 400 IM that day. I was just looking at the calendar of events on the website (http://www.wildflower.org/) and they are closed that day!
So in case anyone else was planning to visit make sure you don't show up there on Friday.
Anyone have any other suggestions for Austin "must sees" I can do on Friday instead?
If you have a car - take a 30 minute drive to Lake Travis. The Oasis is a popular but mediocre restaurant built on the side of a cliff several hundred feet above the main basis of Lake Travis. Superb view of a beautiful lake. Just have a drink and bring your sunglasses.
Rent a jetski or boat from Just for Fun or at Lakeway Marina.
Eat a fabulous dinner at Hudson's on the Bend. Rich, flavorful, game-influenced food.
