The women's team swims lights out at conferance and craters at NCAA's now the men are in a battle to finish 4th...
No one ever revealed the entire story behind Marsh's departure...interesting that Quick was brought in mid-season...takes the rains...and now we see the results...so...one more year or is he gone after this season?
This thread has exposed a lot but I sure never anticipated coming across a full-blown man crush. That's some deep man-love right there, amigos, not that there's anything wrong with that.
I darn near think Smith has himself a prom date now.
Carlos, I also respect Paul's accomplishments, but before you enshrine him, you really need to search this forum for the following keywords

My bold and tenacious grandmother says: "Don't worry about what ppl think. They're going to think no matter what you do."
Look. A guy leaves one of the most sought after positions in the sport. Ppl are going to question that. Period.
There are a lot of ppl that are really dialed into the sport in this nation. Many of us have very interesting info that we could share. I'm convinced that we could get the real answer w/in a couple of hours if we were to place just a few well phone calls/emails. Just this week I've held back info on two separate threads for a variety of reasons. I'm sure I'm not the only one. And I'm certain that there are posters lurking around that can elaborate but refrain from doing so.
Seeking some info isn't criminal. Trying to pool information isn't criminal.
Especially when the poster doing so is, frankly, very well-known, well-connected, respected and uses his real name instead of hiding behind a screen-name.
It was not just seeking information. There were suggestions made. And frankly, I don't see how it's made any better by the poster having the attributes you have mentioned.
I know that Salo was making $400-500K coaching Novaquaitcs several years back.
Really? Wow. Now this is probably the most interesting thing in this thread so far. I find it hard to believe, but incredible if true. I would have guessed very few club coaches even make more than $100K, but I really have no idea.
I'm sure Marsh was making very good money at Auburn when you factor everything in. Also the cost of living in Auburn, Alabama can't be too high. I'm sure Charlotte is considerably more expensive.
Amy, here is a discussion from TimedFinals that occurred a year ago on this same subject....
www.timedfinals.com/.../
A USA Today article where even Rowdy wonders why......
www.usatoday.com/.../2007-...80304307_x.htm
Here is an article from the year prior to him deciding to leave where it says he signed an 8 year deal to stay with the team after being courted by Stanford to come there.......
www.ocm.auburn.edu/.../032806.html
A lot of the other articles I found make it sound like it was for family reasons that he left.....ultimately the only one that can answer this question is Coach Marsh....the rest of us are relegated to discussing it here on the forums speculating on the reasons why......
OK, let me say it again: I have no problem with people wondering why Coach Marsh would leave what some consider a "Dream Job" at Auburn. Think he's as crazy as you'd like. But don't accuse him of illegal recruiting, hazing violations and a lack of character simply because you have heard other people gossip. Even mentioning that you heard some talk of problems at Auburn would be irritating but alright by me. It's the definitive nature of Paul's statement that Marsh DID take a step major backward from his job at Auburn as a result of major problems with his activities as coach that seem over the line to me. At least Paul has the guts to sign his own name, as opposed to "In the Know" on the Timed Finals discussion.
Amy, sorry if my posts touched you personally as my intent from the start of this thread was really to explore who/why one of the greatest men's swimming programs in NCAA history fell apart in one year after the head coach leaves when they were on the way to a possible 6th victory....it boggles my mind.
As for comments about why Marsh may have left (a question), if the new job was a step down (my opinion) and possible problems at the school (rumors and reality mixed together, go back and review the situation with Durden for some insight and ask some current/former swimmers)
So....can Auburn rise again under Quick?
Bill's point is for another thread but well taken...the rise of Arizona...Frank has done an outstanding job there and his coaching staff is arguably the best in the nation....DeMont is a genius...and with the pool upgrades taking place right now they could pull in top recruits for years.
Right now I say we just agree to disagree????
Agreed. And, Paul, yes I took this one personally. David's wife is a terrific person who has very high standards. From what I know of David, he is much the same. So we'll let the reasons and motivations for Marsh's move remain a mystery.
Sorry I got so testy. But I'm pretty fiercely loyal to my friends.

I feel no guilt in not posting under my real name. Everyone knows who I am anyway except maybe Carlos. :thhbbb:
Should we all comment on Geek's new avatar now? I see some deep man love coming his way from Stud.
