After seeing a woman break 24 seconds and I think we can stop the discussion of "IF" the LZR suit is faster and start thinking "how much faster".
The previous line of suits (Fastskin and so on) were pretty similiar to a shaved swimmer. Sure - they do feel like they make you float, but overall the times seemed to move along "in line" with what I would expect to see in terms of improvements in the sport. If the previous suits would have been that much faster than shaving, you would have never seen people just using the legskins. By the way - for us Masters swimmers there was always the added benefit of keeping in all the "extra layers of skin".
So how much faster are the LZR suits ?
If I had to guess based on the results so far, I would say 0.25 to 0.30 per 50 and double that for the 100. I can see the Bernard going 48 low in the 100 and I can see Sullivan getting close or just breaking the 50 record. It makes sense that Libby Lenton would swim a 24.2 or so in the 50.
I think one of the top regular teams out there should do a test - you need a good amount of world class swimmers training together to be able to do a test. Here is the test I would propose:
8-10 swimmers
2 days of testing
4x50 on 10 minutes all out
Day 1 - swim 2 with a Fastskin2 followed by 2 with the LZR
Day 2 - swim 2 with the LZR followed by 2 with the Fastskin2
Get the averages of all 10 swimmers - maybe drop the high and low and there you go.
Why do the test ? I would HAVE to know. Swimming is a big part of your life and you just set a massive PR using this new technology - my very first question would be " How much was me and how much was the suit?"?

Remember that neoprene is not automatically a flotation enhancing substance. Yes it floats when used in wetsuits because in a wetsuit it is a closed cell foam. But neoprene is really just a form of synthetic rubber. It is used to coat fabrics to make them waterproof. Neoprene has been used for inflatable goods for years.
So $1,000 is a cheap bike? Glad I'm not a cyclist! Although presumably you can use a bike for more than a few rides, unlike these swimsuits.
Nope, I'm not saying that a grand is cheap for a bike. However, it is closer to the low end of the competitive road bike spectrum!
(I am a retired Physics Instructor who did quite a bit of swimming many years ago. see www.SdogV.com..I am now 80.)
Having you here (along with George Park) is quite an honor - open water / long distance "royalty." Welcome.

Wow, 3 seconds for a 56 y/o.
How about this for an experiment:
Speedo supplys a couple full heats of elite swimmers (in the 100 fly or something) FS Pros for a semifinal race; then they all come back 6 hours later all wearing LZRs for the finals and see what the time difference is.

Don't forget the Canadian Seniors ................. :canada:
(Although I don't think I could ever wear one of those full-body
suits.)
Weren't there two guys at 2007 Worlds that tied in the semis, had a swim-off and tied again? They could just get those two to race twice, switching suits between. :)

What are the odds of that happening...twice!

This may be the best commercial yet for the LZR suit.... From the Worlds thread...
WOW.Tim Shead went 1:11.13 for the 100 BR 55-59 taking over 3 sec from his WR(he must have been wearing a LZR)
He was. (at least that was identified to me - I just knew he was wearing a suit from ankles to shoulders).
That is the fastest 100 meter *** Tim Shead has ever swam after 20 years of competition. I am not suggesting anything except its hard to believe a guy at 56 suddenly swims that much faster then when he was in his forties. Broke the 200 IM record by four seconds almost 2 seconds faster then the 50 to 54 guys. He is scehduled to swim in Austin and should go minute flat in the 100 *** hell he broke the 50 *** record going to his 100 in Perth. He is a great swimmer but the time drops are astounding. His own old world record in the 100 meters (set last year) was 1 14.67.
