  • The overload principle as I understand it goes like this (I was a kinesiology major in college, but that was back in the 70s). You exercise hard (say, left heavy weights). That stresses your muscles (tendons and muscle fibers sustain damage - "microtears"). Your body responds by making more muscle so it's more resistant to damage from that same level of exercise the next time. If you don't wait long enough you wind up making those microtears worse. Anabolic steroids speed the healing process so you can reduce the time between heavy workouts, thus you can ramp up your load faster and grow muscle faster. So, if anabolic steroids and HGH both work to accelerate the healing process, the person using them is going to be able to grow muscle faster than without them. Alain Bernard certainly looks like he's been lifting some very heavy weight. This image doesn't suggest to me that E.S. is nearly as buff as Bernard. Crap, the guy's only 22. He might finally just have gotten his head in the damn game during the past year. Skip
