You can do that. In addition to OTA or cable HD programming, my 50" Sony HDTV is quite handy as a glorified HDTV PC monitor.
Run an S-video cable and a audio cable from your computer to your HDTV, adjust the monitor setting (usually Alt +F4) and voila. Streaming video from the computer to the HDTV monitor
I'd rather watch it on a big screen HD TV than a small computer screen.
