Good Lord, look at that second pic. Paul's going to have to give up his forum nickname; I think the REAL Swim-Hulk has been revealed. Even Chuck Norris might tread lightly around that guy.
I'm not even going to comment on any kind of PED stuff, but I remember that there was a thread in which the question arose about whether too much muscle might slow a swimmer down.
Perhaps that question can be put to rest now? :)
I think he just looks like he hits the weight room.
Why is it a big surprise that a sprinter is buff? Personally, I'm happy to see a buff athlete outdo the technicians. There's room for everyone in the sport. Some are strong, some have great technique, some are super tall ...
That's a ridiculous comparison. Photography can be deceptive. Here's a more realistic picture of Bernard after the 50 semis.
A picture is a picture. Don't know what is ridiculous about it unless his head was superimposed or something.

He had just swum a race, he was flexing his muscles, and the camera angle was just right. It's pretty obvious when you look at normal pictures of him, like the one I posted, that he's not much larger than any other fast swimmer.
Fort, I think there's a lot of willful ignorance about the role of muscle in swimming. Someone here told me to quit the "pro wrestling" thing, as if muscles are just for show.
