Places to Swim in Scottsdale, Arizona

Sorry if this is a dumb/inappropriate question for this forum but does anybody on the boards live in/near Scottsdale that could recommend a team/place to swim? I will be in down Thursday/Friday of this week staying at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Thanks much!

I will be in down Thursday/Friday of this week staying at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Thanks much! I don't know specifically about Scottsdale, but I've been to Phoenix a few times recently and always swim at ASU with the Sun Devil Masters. I always look forward to going there because the coaches are really nice and it's outside in a great pool! www.sundevilmasters.org/ A little ways down the road from ASU is the Rio Salado Masters. They swim in the mornings and the coach Chad is really nice. We swam together growing up in Maryland. http://www.rioswimteam.org/
  • There is a Y in Scottsdale with an outdoor pool that is acceptable if you are dying to get a swim in. It was a bit warm but it is outside. www.valleyymca.org/location.asp
  • If you follow the link that Julie gave for Sun Devil Masters (the team I swim with), you'll see that the team also does the workouts at Scottsdale locations. Let me know if you come to the Tempe/ASU workouts, as I'm almost always there at the 6am workout. I pulled the following from our team website, www.sundevilmasters.org Cactus Aquatic & Fitness Center - 7202 E. Cactus Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 is Northeast of Scottsdale Road and Cactus McDowell Mountain Ranch Park and Aquatic Center - 15525 N. • I'll be coaching the Thursday noon workout at ASU if you want to drop in...recovery day with some turn/start work.
  • How far is it from Scottsdale to ASU? I suspect I'll drop into the Cactus pool workouts. Thanks for the advice on where to swim everybody!

I'd estimate 30 to 45 min from the Princess to either of the ASU pools, depending on traffic. It may be faster not to use the freeway. From the Princess to the Cactus pool (at Scottsdale & Cactus), probably about 15 minutes, a pretty straight shot down Scottsdale Rd. Laura Winslow coaches there most mornings (she is a more active coach). I swam there every now and then when I worked in N Scottsdale, but they were a separate program/team then. Paul--I heard you deserted us for the Brophy group ;)

I think I'll opt for the closer pool (it appears to be less than 5 miles from the hotel to the Cactus pool). Would be cool to meet a forum stalwart such as yourself, though. Some other day...
