flutter kick upright position

well since i'm already here in this forum, i might as well ask this question that's been bothering me for quite sometime now. i'm off to a snorkeling vacation in one of the islands here in the Philippines, i just want to ask, if i am going to make myself afloat in an upright position, what kind of flutter kick should i do? do i point my feet downwards and do a scissor type flutter kick? of do i make a flutter kick as if i'm taking a step on a series of stairs? p.s. i am wearing fins of course :)

    Just kick very gently from the hips. With the huge fins used for snorkeling, not much motion is needed. Try not to use the "bicycling" (from the knee) kick that so many people do, as that can cause stress on the knee and you'll be doing more work than you need to.
