Hello all.
I was wondering if someone could steer me in the right direction. I started swimming for the first time in my life-(yes never ever put my face in the water) almost, about 4 years ago.
I now LOVE swimming--I have been swimming masters for almost 3 years and just cannot get enough of swimming.
I cannot of course, dive. Well my attempts to do so have been quite intersting. Does anyone know of any clinics or people who give lessons to learn how to dive. Intersted in the NJ/NYC area.
Thank you very much!!
Thank you. I have been told that people start in the water. Then I went to a masters meet and checked it out for myself. Not one person started in the water.
Most of it is psychological--I do not want to be the only one starting in the water.....and then, there is me, I want to learn.
I would LOVE to enter a meet. But, would feel better if I could dive.
Thanks for the encouragament!!!! :cheerleader:
Claudia,
There are some excellent Masters programs in New Jersey. You can check them out on the New Jersey web site http://www.njmasters.org/ . Any Masters coach at one of these programs should be able to teach you how to dive.
Thank you. I am already on a masters team. We do practice diving at times adn the coaches have been nice enough to have spent some additional time with me.
Looking for more training and/or private lessons.
Thanks!

Claudia do you mean race dive or diving as a sport?
For race starts see if there is a age group nearby or try contacting a local university and see if they have a coach who will take a private lessons.
If it is diving as a sport then I think there is USA diving link on the USMS page someplace. Start there.
Thank you--I meant race diving. I would love to someday enter a meet, but I cannot dive.
Thank you!
You don't need to start from the blocks to race...or flip turn. Many folks start in water and/or open turn due to injuries or other issues.
At least you want to learn...you should do a meet..it'll add incentive to learn.
