Quick Intro and goggle question

Hello to everyone, This is my first post on this board so here's a quick intro before my question. Stats: Male/33/6'/175lbs/Toronto, ON area. I am new to Masters swimming/training, (4 months) but not new to the water. Lifeguard, SCUBA/freediver, more at home in the water than out, should have been a swimmer but somehow got involved with bodybuilding - the last sport on Earth I have genetics for, but I did 16 years in the gym when I shoulda been in the pool. Now I have found Masters - better late than never. I have been swimming for about 4 months now and LOVE it! I was made for this sport in every way, shape, and form. My first question is pretty basic, concerning goggles. I have Speedo AirSeal's and they are great - however they leave marks around my eyes for up to 6+ hours after swimming. I look ridiculous. If I loosen them they leak, especially pushing off the wall, ie: *** pullout. Any ideas/tips/suggestions?? Should I shop around for a different pair? They seem to fit/work fine except for the marks. Is this just part of the sport? (No one else seems to have marks as crazy as mine though...) Glad to be a part of this forum and Masters Swimming. I know little about swimming (but learning very fast) and my forte is weight training and nutrition if anyone has questions about those areas. I found the recent thread about slimming down to swim faster very interesting. I plan to keep hitting the weights 3X/week and even compete in fitness modeling as I jump into Masters swimming, but do not plan to add any more muscle, unless the swim training adds some. I don't think it will. Planning to learn as much about swimming as I do about weight training & bodybuilding. This is my sport! Swim Fast! ~Todd www.outpost31.com/.../thing.html

Help! Most of these answers to the goggle dilemma appear to be very o ld. I also am very frustrated with my goggles. All of them leak. Then when I try to adjust them, I spend half of my lap swimming time trying to adjust them. My dream would be to find some leak proof goggles that are easy to adjust to start with and never have to adjust again. HELP> The answers to this question rarely change. Goggles don't change much. I agree the first thing to do is try them on at a store. They should have some "sticktion" without using the strap. If one eye fits well on its own but not both then the nosepiece is probably the wrong size. Many goggles have adjustable nosepieces or come with multiple sizes. I prefer silicone seals over foam, but my sons both prefer foam. The strap on Vanquishers is strong and doesn't stretch as easily. The strap on Nike goggles are more stretchy. I think Swedish style are an acquired preference and the hard plastic on my face doesn't work for me.

Well, I grew up with marks around my eyes thanks to goggles. I have a weird facial structure...My eyes are wide apart and large sockets (can't wear sweedish style without pain, the Vanquishers that people seem to love kill me eyes), so my structure is hard to fit, and then the nosepiece always digs into my nosebridge. I can actually feel a little dent on my nose from the years of swimming I've put in. However, I loved my goggles and wouldn't trade them for the world. They were comfy and would stay on every time I dove in. Now that I've come back into swimming (took off about 5 years or so), I am having trouble finding goggles that fit well. The style I used to use have all changed their materials (ahem, Speedo). The foam on the goggles irritate my eyes and the straps are now made from silicone, which slip off my cap when I dive in. AND they no longer have the little plastic anchors to hold the strap tight, they just have little notches that are supposed to hold the goggles strap in place. It's jsut impossible for me & very irritating since I NEVER had this problem, before. I now use whatever I find comfortable. I just go into the Kiefer store and try on all the goggles. I'm sure they hate me. I now have "practice" goggles that are comfy, but don't stay on if I dive in. I have "meet" goggles that are less comfy, but stay on much better. :snore:
